My head is bursting with the joy of the unknown.
My heart is expanding a thousand-fold.
Every cell, taking wings, flies about the world.

Cups song

It got a little rough in the middle. I just learned it this afternoon. Don't judge!

Rainy day randomness

Since the weather today is so icky today,  I haven't felt like doing much. However, no matter the weather, I still always make an entry in my art journal. I couldn't find my ink pins so a simple doodle for today's entry was out and I didn't feel like dragging a bunch of stuff out that I'd have to put up. SO...I found a bunch of not so fresh vegetables in the fridge and decided to make stamps out of them. (this is not an original idea...I saw it on a tv show). I didn't have the veggies they used on the show so I decided to go with celery, potato, and cauliflower. I put a rubberband around the celery and cut the bottom of the stalk off (I cut about 2 inches up from the very bottom where all of the stocks are fused together) this is what I used for the roses. You can use the base or the stalks...whichever looks more like a rose to you. I took a small bunch of cauliflower and stamped it for the small flower bunches and also the lavender around the edges. Finally, I cut the very tip off of a potato (try to find one that comes to a kind of point and isn't just rounded at the end) and I cut a slit down the middle of the tip to make it look like the vein in a leaf. I got a paint brush and a couple of colors of paint and stamped away. Afterwards I deorated with some ribbon and little pearls I had in my craft stuff. Viola! A beautiful flower bouqet. And you dont have to feel bad about throwing away those veggies you never ate. A simple, easy to clean up craft that uses things you already have in your house!

And here are just a few of my other journal entries..

I don't know why this one is upside down...my camera is being weird and I'm too lazy to mess with it and flip it around....

Donde esta mi dedo?

So...Pate and I are sitting at urgent care and this guy and his girlfriend walks in. I notice he's limping so I look down at his foot and see the big nasty. His toe is hanging to the side and his skin is all green and flailing around and he says to the receptionist " I think I might've broke my toe".
I'm really not sure what "toe" he was talking about because all I saw was a big ol' heap o' nasty crusty crust. Anyways... he stuck it in the receptionist's face...practically in her mouth. Shooooooo. She told him "honey, that toe needs to go. We can't do anything for you. That's a bone...not a toe. Go to the E.R." And this toothpick and his snaggletoothed girlfriend started trash talking the poor nurse saying "she don't know nothing. That's not a bone. Its a toe nail ( if that's true then you got wayyyy worse problems than a stubbed toe dude. That thang was RAUNCHY) . I just stubbed it. Its prolly just a lil bit broken"
And off they were sent on their merry way to the emergency room. Props for being tough..but you need to get that thing sewn back on! Its wanky...

Lesson learned today: if your toe has to be put back on with a band aid..you should probably just go to the emergency room.
And also, someone ruined my day by farting in front of me at target. Thank you for that.
Target is sophisticated. If you're going to fart, go to Walmart.

PS..I changed tenses a LOT in this post. I would like to apologize to my high school English teacher, Mrs Summers...at least I noticed it!
PSS...she didn't really have a snaggle tooth. It just made for a better story. Sooo...sorry bout that.
Hope your day is filled with less nastiness than mine...

Daddy & Me

Happy father's day to all the dads out there...and especially mine! I am so lucky to have a dad like mine. He is the most honest, hard-working, caring man I have ever met...and I know nobody will ever top him. We never wanted for anything growing up, yet he taught us how to work hard to achieve the things we want. He has been there through all the heart breaks, all the mean girls, all the hospital visits, all the times I changed my major (thinking about changing it again...love you daddy!) and never once led us astray .or left our side. I've struggled with my health through my last year and a half of college and he never once complained about supporting me until I was well enough to hold down a job. He shares everything he has and never hesitates to give to others. He's taken in so many of our friends as his own children and is still stuck with a few of them! He never meets a stranger. So...now that you know my dad a little better, here are a few things he's taught me:

1) If he doesn't treat you like a princess, he ain't worth it!
2) You can't take money with you when you go so travel, share it, do the things you've always wanted to.
3) Don't decide what to do with your life based on money. Do something that makes you happy and God will do the rest.
4) Burn a piece of paper and rub the leftover sticky resin on ringworms to get rid of them. (This is quite possibly the most valuable thing he has taught me! I have a bad habit of petting stray cats, so naturally, I've had ringworms a few times..gross, I know. Its the only thing that ever gets rid of them! Works way better than those uber expensive creams from the doctor.)
5) You won't make it through life without a sense of humor. Learn to laugh and you can get through anything (Our family's pretty good at it)
6) Never settle. If you're not happy, leave, change jobs, go back to school..do whatever it is you truly want to do.
7) It's never too late to start making your dreams come true. You're never too old to turn your life in a different direction.
8) If at first you don't succeed, you're probably limp-wristing it
9) Always smell the milk before you drink it...you don't go by the expiration date. You go by the smell.
10) Love unconditionally. Everything and everyone. Kill your wrong-doers with kindness.
11) Forgiving people does not mean you have let them continue to take advantage of you. Know the difference.
12) Be happy. Count your blessings. Always know you have someone to fall back on when things get rough.
13) Kat Balou was the best movie ever made.
14) Lemon Pepper and brown sugar make everything taste better.
15) Always put sunscreen on your ears. They're the first place that will burn!

Happy fathers day daddy. I love you the toast!

Look for another tutorial soon!
Happy Sunday,
Catie *)

Tidbits and trinkets

Hello friend,

I am new to the blogging world so bear (bare?) with me.
I hope to share with you everything from crafts to recipes to skin and hair care to stories about stupid people and everything in between. So...before we dive into all that business, here's a few tidbits and trinkets from my life so you can get a better feel of who I am.

This is my favorite song at the moment. Watch the video. Its worth it.

My favorite movies..

The person I would most like to meet : Tim Burton. I am an avid collector. I have every movie he's ever made...and I do mean Every. Single. One.

My best friend and fiancee, Pate. He's been my other half since I was fourteen. Poor guy.

Random fact: One time I drove through a Larry's Big &Tall store. I kinda split it into two. It became Larry's Big OR Tall. But how many people are both big AND tall? I just made it easier on everybody. Now they can just choose the side they need...

My art journal. It goes with me EVERYWHERE. I do entries daily to keep the creativity flowing and to get all this junk out of my head...otherwise, I'm too scatterbrained to function. Mine is homemade (I will post a tutorial later for those of you who are interested) but you can just buy a cheap notepad or sketchbook. The actual book doesn't matter..its what you fill it with thats important. I encourage you to start one. You don't have to be artistic. Most of my entries are simple doodles, decorated grocery lists, or just random, jumbled thoughts. Anything to clear your mind and get your day going. I will try to post a couple of my entries a week for those of you who are just starting out journaling. It helps to have other people's work to refer to. It is a fantastic stress reliever and can be filled with anything you like..doesn't have to be a masterpiece. The first picture is the front cover of my personal journal. The second is the back cover. And the third is the inside cover and my first journal entry. It looks complicated but it is really very simple. I will post a video how to later for both the journal and the first page I created. If you have any questions or need inspiration, feel free to contact me. I would love to hear your feedback!

My babies!! All three are rescue dogs. Needless to say, I am no longer allowed to visit the shelter. Whatever.  I also have a black cat at my parents house named Noel but she's a wanker and impossible to get a picture of. She's close to 10 years old.
^^This is Paisley. She loves her Teddy bear and doesn't go anywhere without it. She also loves to play with her rubber ducky. She is currently not speaking to me because I accidentally threw it behind the refrigerator. She also gets really really embarrassed when she farts and will hide for hours if she thinks you heard it...so you have to pretend that you don't hear her constant walking farts or she'll put herself in the corner and mope.
^^This is Sadie. She's the sweetest, most well behaved dog in the world. She was very badly abused before she was sent to the shelter. Now she lives a life of luxury...eating green beans, watching tv, and laying on my pillow.
^^This is Rufus. He's full of bitterness and impure thoughts.

My favorite shows: Pretty Little Liars, of course, because I'm a girl in my twenty-somethings. Vampire Diaries. Face-Off (Most of you have probably never heard of it. Its on SyFy and its a special effects/makeup competition. I would highly recommend watching it). And best of all, Little Britain. It went off air year ago, but all of the seasons are on Netflix and Hulu. It is the funniest show you will ever watch...and I will probably quote it on here incessantly so you should probably go check it out. (Fat Amy's brother plays most of the characters..if that motivates you any)

A few of my favorite things:

The Moon. I make it a point to look at it every night simply because it makes me happy. My migraines are affected by the full moon. Call it hokey, but its the truth. I was also born on a total solar eclipse during the full moon (a day way before my actual due date). You can go to the NASA page and find out what the moon phase was on any date. Different moon phases are believed to have different affects on the child at birth. Its pretty cool if you're into that kind of thing.
The Larimar Stone. It can only be found in the Caribbean. I got a small drop for my necklace. It is used in holistic medicine for its supposed healing properties. I bought one when Pate and I went to Aruba with my grandparents. It really is a beautiful, unique stone.
My absolute favorite place in the world: New Orleans. Ive been to France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the Caribbean, New York, L.A....and New Orleans still takes the cake. Its just bursting at the seams with life and culture. (All of the photos below were taken on my most recent trip to NOLA last summer)

Folklore. The COOLEST area of study EVER. Unfortunately, my college of choice does not offer it so I am reduced to googling. (The photo below was taken in NOLA also)

My Necklace. It never comes off. A cross. A moon. A larimar stone.

My favorite scents: Lavender and Rose. The real oils, not the synthetic stuff. ICKKKK.
